Statement On The Nomination of Brett Kavanaugh To The Supreme Court

SPEAK OUT CENTRAL NEW YORK RESPONDS TO NOMINATION OF BRETT KAVANAUGH TO THE SUPREME COURT

As Congressional Republicans Increasingly Turn To The Courts To Sabotage Access to Health Care, Speak Out CNY Calls On Senate To Oppose Trump’s Choice

SYRACUSE — Speak Out Central New York released the below statement in response to President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:

“The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is nothing short of another Republican attack on health care, and will endanger Americans’ access to care while allowing Trump to continue his relentless attacks on the Affordable Care Act.

“After failing repeatedly to repeal the ACA through Congressional action, Republicans are turning increasingly to the courts to further their partisan agenda and dismantle key patient protections that have helped millions of Americans access care. Now, even as a coalition of Republican-led states attempt to use a lawsuit to overturn protections that require insurance companies to cover patients with pre-existing conditions – putting 140 million Americans and 600,000 Central New Yorkers at risk of losing their insurance – Trump and his Republican allies are getting ready to stack the courts in their own favor.

“This is what happens when unabashed federal attacks on health care go unchecked by the Legislature, and Congressmembers John Katko and Claudia Tenney have long been enabling this rampant sabotage with their support for Trump’s hyper-conservative agenda.

“Speak Out Central New York calls on Congress — including both our senators and Congressmembers Katko and Tenney — to fight for the interests of their constituents and demand Trump choose a nominee who will protect the rights and needs of Americans, rather than blindly supporting a callous and partisan agenda.”
