Speak Out CNY Responds to Latest Round of Republican Health Care Sabotage

STATEMENT FROM SPEAK OUT CENTRAL NEW YORK IN RESPONSE TO REPUBLICANS’ LATEST ROUND OF ATTACKS ON HEALTH CARE

Congressional Republicans Announce Plan To Ravage Medicaid To Pay For $1.5T Tax Break For The Rich, As Conservatives Unveil New Health Care Repeal Plan

Trump Administration Allowing Employers To Offer Junk Insurance Plans

This week, Republicans continued their war on health care with an avalanche of new attacks, including unveiling a new plan to repeal health care for tens of millions of Americans, a regulatory move to allow employers to offer insurance that won’t cover workers’ most basic medical needs, and a budget plan that robs Medicaid to pay for their $1.5 trillion tax break for the rich. Speak Out Central New York released the following statement in response to this news:

“The extraordinary Republican assault on affordable, quality health care continues unabated – and even actively assisted – by the Trump administration, while Congressman John Katko and Congresswoman Claudia Tenney happily stand alongside Vice President Pence at $30,000 per plate fundraisers.

“Now, their party plans to ravage critical health and wellness programs like Medicaid and food assistance funds to pay for their $1.5 trillion tax break for rich corporations and campaign donors. Rather than doing anything to protect their constituents, Katko and Tenney are complicit in these efforts to roll back basic protections, including coverage for maternity care, prescription drugs and mental health services. They refuse to take a stand, even as this administration attempts to enable employers and insurers to offer junk insurance plans that skirt federal regulations and leave workers and their families stranded when they encounter an illness or emergency as we all inevitably do.

“We call on Claudia Tenney and John Katko to immediately condemn this latest round of health care sabotage, and stand up against hyper-conservative partisanship to defend their constituents.”
